Performance Lead

The Performance Lead is responsible for managing all acting staff during Operational Nights. They collaborate with the Staff Coordinator and House Creepers to optimize night staffing. The lead guides actors throughout the night and ensures scenes are executed effectively. See below for more details.

  • Leads pre-arrival Creeper meetings
  • Guides, directs, and oversees all acting staff
  • Provides input on scene selection
  • Assists with managing late arrivals and actor movements
  • Aids injured or ill actors in the Staff lounge
  • Completes Incident Report Forms
  • Assists with actor changes and early clock-outs
  • Participates in scenes during open hours, ensuring smooth operations
  • Collaborates with Jess and Nick on scene preferences
  • Ensures all acting staff are well-equipped and supported
  • Handles discipline and dismissal of acting staff
  • Follows protocol and collaborates on ideas and policies with Jess and Nick
  • Has authority over both attractions and Queue Line.

House Creepers

House Creepers, strong actors with leadership skills, collaborate closely with the Performance Lead. They ensure the well-being of their assigned Zone, offering guidance and support on operational nights. House Creepers maintain constancy by staying consistent each night.   • Fill out personal placement boards upon actors’ arrival
  • Ensure Speaker Scares are operational by 6 pm
  • Guide actors in your zone, leading exercises and showing them around
  • Answer questions and gather actors 
  • Be prepared under your Zone on the Placement Board after the pump-up
  • Escort actors to their scenes and conduct a Zone walkthrough
  • Confirm triggers (animatronics, air cannons) are functional; report issues via walkie-talkie
  • Conduct constant rounds of your Zone during the night
  • Check on actors for safety and needs
  • Assist in case of illness or injury, bringing actors to the Staff Lounge
  • Manage breaks based on event hours
  • Cover scenes if an actor is absent and discipline acting staff when necessary
  • Have full authority over Zones and can work in the Queue Line during breaks or after completing a full Zone round.

Queue Line

Queue Line Characters entertain guests in Queue Lines before entering Attractions, maintaining consistency with commercial portrayals. Actors in these roles must adhere strictly to character requirements, handling crowds, providing entertainment, and enduring reasonable weather conditions.

  • Arrive on time for prompt costume and makeup preparation
  • Portray character exactly as written
  • Emphasize entertainment, not just scariness
  • Good dialogue and quick thinking for interactions and photos with guests
  • Monitor for rowdy guests
  • Report unruly, intoxicated, or aggressive guests to Nick, Jess, or Marco
  • Full control of assigned Queue Line areas:
    • Outside Queue
    • Front Queue
    • Second Queue
    • Store

Icons

Icons are the characters that are set in a certain scene or area. These are roles that require the actor to wear a certain costume and/or mask in order to work that scene.

  • Icons in scenes or Queue Lines with examples like Red Demon or Trash Goblin
  • Detailed mask/makeup and costume; strict script adherence
  • Different actors may portray due to masks
  • Requires strong acting skills
  • Acknowledge individual strengths and weaknesses; different icons may suit different actors

Scenes

Assigned scenes for the night with customized sound and light shows for each character. Scenes use speaker scares for consistency and vocal preservation. Some open scenes involve roaming and emphasize body movement for effective scares with minimal effort.

  • Stay in assigned scene throughout the night
    • Avoid following groups out to maintain scare effectiveness
  • Perform scene as instructed by Lead and Creeper
    • Share ideas with Lead but follow original performance if directed
  • Safety and well-being prioritized in intentional scene designs
  • Communicate always, especially when leaving your scene
  • Report customer harm or damage via walkie and leave scene
    • Know your scene and briefly describe the group
  • Embrace a teamwork mentality; address feelings calmly
  • Be adaptable to scene placements; have fun and stay positive
  • Communicate scene preferences in advance via Scene Request forms
  • Appreciate pre-planning efforts for smooth operations.

Puppets

Puppets are animatronics staff control. Actors or event staff can operate them on operational nights, making them suitable for those who don’t want to act but enjoy being in attractions. No costume or makeup is required, and they typically involve minimal movement.

  • Familiarize yourself with your puppet’s size, shape, and movement upon arrival
  • Stand and wear comfy shoes while operating puppets
  • Ideal for an easier night while still working
  • Take time off if needed, but consider puppet work for a less strenuous option
  • Express your love for puppet work to be staffed accordingly
  • Communicate preferences or requests for change
  • Appreciate the skillset required for puppet operation
    • Puppets are not for “bad” actors; they offer a unique way to interact with guests
  • Embrace the surprise and fun of controlling a monster puppet.
