Makeup Artist Overview

Stations

  • Each station in the makeup room is numbered and contains materials that are numbered to correspond to the station it belongs in.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure only your inventory is up to date and stocked. Your personal inventory should be checked every night before going home.
    • If you need a supply, you can alert us using the Inventory Form found on the Makeup Homepage.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Important Info

  • Call time for makeup artists will always be 30 Minutes prior to actor call time, allowing time for you to set up and prep.
    • This is typically 4:30pm during the Season and Off-Season Events, minus Nightmare Combat.
    • You need to be ready to go as soon as actors arrive and may begin to let people in early IF you’re ready to take people sooner.
  • Clocking In and Out
    • If you are JUST doing makeup without going on to Act or work Event Staff, just sign in and out on Haunt Scheduler in the Costume Room.
    • If you are doing makeup THEN going on to Act or work Event Staff, log your makeup hours on the spreadsheet (you can access this on the homepage of the Makeup Section). Once you are done with makeup, make sure your MAKEUP hours are logged on the Spreadsheet, then clock in for your Acting or Event Staff Position on the computer in the Costume Room.
    • NOTE: It is 100% your responsibility to keep an accurate record of your hours. This includes remembering to sign in and out on Haunt Scheduler and updating the Spreadsheet.
  • Most actors will be in some type of mask. They will still need their eyes and mouths blacked out, as well as some quick grime or blood makeup applied to all visible skin.
    • Please lift their sleeves and collars and apply makeup there as well, just in case clothes shift.
    • People in masks needs a QUICK makeup job, not exceeding 5 minutes. It does not have to be perfect and pretty.
  • Actors who are getting full faces will have reference photos and should look exactly like those photos.
    • These are typically queue line characters.
    • Not necessary, but it might be beneficial to appoint one Makeup Artist to do full faces while someone else works with masks.
  • All actors need to be in makeup and ready to go no later than 6:15pm so they can attend the meeting and pump up.
  • Once actors are in makeup and ready to go, you can get ready for the next part of your night.
    • If you are going straight home, please ensure your station is clean and sanitized, all materials are put away, floors are swept and mopped, and inventory is taken and submitted if necessary.
    • If you are going on to act or work on Event Staff, clean up as much as possible. However, this can be done once you’re done with Acting or Event Staff for the night.
    • Regardless of when you leave, the End of Night Checklist needs to be completed and submitted.
    • (Also, you are totally welcome and encouraged to join the pump-up before cleaning up if you’re able!)
  • PLEASE REMEMBER: The Makeup Room should be left in such a state that anyone could come in and easily find what they’re looking for. Everything is labeled and has a place, so please make sure to keep it that way when you leave for the night.
  • Under no circumstances should actors be doing their own makeup or using your supplies.
    • Actors who have been given permission from Jess understand that they are responsible for bringing in their own supplies and materials to do so. They can do their makeup at home or in their designated area at the Haunt, but NOT the makeup room.
    • Don’t hesitate to kick lingering actors out and remind them to respect your space. Please alert Tootle immediately if there are any issues like this and we can handle it.
  • Use your own supplies.
    • Each station is stocked with the exact same supplies and materials in order to make keeping track of inventory easier for everyone.
    • If you run out of a product, please give us enough notice to order or grab new stuff. Even if a product is running low, let us know ASAP. Some products are able to be picked up, but most need to be ordered in advance to do shipping and/or our other commitments.
    • Your stations are your responsibility, so please don’t steal from your makeup team.
  • Spray Blood does NOT belong on Costumes!!
    • If a costume is meant to be bloody, we will make sure that happens prior to the night even starting.
    • We ONLY use PermaBlood on costumes ahead of when they’ll be worn.
    • Spray blood turns the costumes pink.
  • Please control spray products as much as possible.
    • It’s definitely fun to spray a wall down with blood, but please try to keep as much product on the actor as possible.
    • There is no reason for spray blood, dirt, and grime to be plaguing every square inch of every surface in the room.
  • Communicate!
    • We’re always down to hear your ideas, questions, and concerns. The best time to bring stuff to our attention is prior to an operational night via email so we can dedicate the needed time to you!
    • We will not be able to make lat minute trips or restock supply needs on operational nights, so make sure you’re filling out that inventory sheet!
